hunting

[Icetalon]

Icetalon stalked through the wet undergrowth towards a small, soaked mouse that was sitting under a bush eating something. She was rather tired of being wet, and she was restless. Something about there being so much rain made her uneasy.
When she got about a tail-length away from the mouse, she crouched down, and then pounced on the unsuspecting victim and killed it quickly. It was barely big enough for a whole meal, but it was better than nothing and she kicked dirt and leaves over it.

"Nice catch." Willowbrook commented from her perch on a small rock. She personally loved everything wet and watery, and was in a good mood from splashing around in some puddles. However, she noticed, there was a good three inches of mud up all four of her legs and a little on stomach. Ugh, I hate cleaning up after this. she thought to herself, remembering all the hours she had spent licking every little tuft of fur clean of the sticky mud.

[Icetalon]

"Thanks." Icetalon mewed, looking up at Willowbrook. She sniffed the air for any scent of prey. She muttered something that Willowbrook couldn't hear as a large raindrop landed on her nose, "I like rain, but not this much!"

She soon gave up, finding it too hard to smell anything because of the rain. She unburied her kill. "I think I'll head back to camp." she said, "Coming?"

A rustle came from the trees and Crystalclear came out with a starling in her mouth. "Oh hey Icetalon and Willowbrook. Are you okay Willowbrook?" Crystalclear started laughing because of all the mud on Willowbrook. "Are you guys heading back to camp? If you are can you help me gather up all my prey?" Crystalclear mewed happily. She loved when it rained because that was when her senses shined but sadly her coat was just like Willowbrook's all muddy and clumped. It would take a good bath and a lot of brushing before her white coat would shine again but she didn't care she would always love the rain and water.

[Icetalon]

Icetalon flicked her tail at Crystalclear, "Sure, I'll help you." she meowed, picking up her small mouse in one side of her mouth and picked up something of Crystalclear's in the other side of her mouth. She spoke past the prey in her jaws, "All I could find was this mouse, I see you had better luck."

[crystalclear]

"Oh ya well I've learned how to cope with the rain. Actually I'm better at hunting when it rains than when it's dry." Crystalclear grabbed the rest of her pile. "I love the rain. It refreshes me. Oh wait I sense a rabbit." Crystalclear stopped talking and pricked her ears up to pinpoint the rabbit.

[Icetalon]

Also pricking her ears, Icetalon glanced around her and dropped the prey in her jaws to sniff the air better. "You're right," she meowed quietly.

"About two foxlengths.... maybe a about a pound or two," Crystalclear meowed. "I think we could get it while we're here."

[Icetalon]

She nodded and licked her lips. A nice plump rabbit! "I'll circle around behind it so that if it runs, I'll catch it." Icetalon crept as quietly as she could in a wide circle until she was behind the rabbit, then she crouched down and waited, ready to spring.

Crystalclear crept closely to the rabbit making sure her presence wasn't noticeable. The rabbit's ears pricked up all of the sudden as it continued on munching on the piece of grass. His head twitched back and forth from every point of view. What's going on? Why is it cautious? I don't think Icetalon is making noise. I'm going to have to move fast otherwise the rabbit will run. Crystalclear thought. She jumped but a second before the rabbit was running away. Crystalclear tried to keep track of the rabbit, she hoped Icetalon had gotten it because now it was out of her reach.

[Icetalon]

Icetalon saw the rabbit sprint in her direction. What scared it? She didn't have time to wonder about this, and she leaped for the rabbit, landing on top it. She broke its neck and picked it up. She padded towards Crystalclear, but stopped and dropped the prey in her jaws to sniff the air. Something wasn't quite right....

[crystalclear]

Crystalclear stood there and started to sniff the air. She sniffed some more and couldn't tell what it was. What was it a fox? Badger? Fire? Wolf? Dog? Twoleg? Skunk? She couldn't pin it down, she walked to where the rabbit had ran to try and find Icetalon. Out of no where a flock of birds flew away from the tree tops. She started quickening her pace knowing that something was there, and it wasn't friendly. "Icetalon!?" She started to yell as she tripped over something and started tumbling to the ground. She found the rabbit, dead, and noticed that something about the rabbit wasn't quite right. "Icetalon?" Crystalclear meowed.

[Icetalon]

The silver tabby she-cat padded over to Crystalclear, her tail twitching nervously, "What's going on? I have a bad feeling." she meowed, and she could tell that her companion had the same feeling. Icetalon shivered, "We should get back to camp quickly."

[crystalclear]

"You can go on ahead..." Crystalclear really wanted to know what was going on, she didn't know wether it was dangerous but she had to find out what it was before other cats in the Clan got hurt by it. "I want to know what's up. There's something going on and I want to find out before others get hurt. Besides I'll be fine," she herself knew that was lie. With her pure white fur she would be shoe-in for the predator to see her. "We have to take the rabbit back to camp and take to the leader but we shouldn't touch it that way the leader can see for herself and maybe decide what's wrong with it." Crystalclear knew she was taking a big risk on trying to find the predator.

[Icetalon]

"No," Icetalon meowed, "I'm not going to leave you here by yourself." She burried the rabbit and flexed her large, talon-like claws. She was always itching for a fight, though she never told anyone. She straightened as she suddenly heard a twig snap. A low growl rumbled in her throat and she narrowed her eyes, she raised her hackles.

Crystalclear looked at Icetalon in acceptence, she could tell Icetalon was eager for a fight like her. She smelled the air one more time, finally she smelled something familiar. "Badger..." she whispered with her breath. She raised her shackles and unsheathed her claws.

[Icetalon]

Icetalon sniffed, then nodded in agreement. "Badger..." she hissed slightly excitedly, "We'll teach it that it's not allowed in Clan territory. It won't be hurting our clan-mates." She stood, ready, her tail quivering slightly with excitement.

[crystalclear]

Crystalclear saw the nose of the badger and it started to growl as he spotted the two she-cats. She hissed at it drawing back her ears in anger. She pounced on it and started clawing the badger to shreads.

[Icetalon]

Icetalon snarled and leapt after Crystalclear into battle. She flung herself under the badger's stomach and raked her claws along in, but slid out from under it before it could stop her, then she attacked its rump, with teeth and claws.
